UN Report Highlights Serious Rights Violations in Xinjiang

In 2022, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released a report concluding that China’s treatment of Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang may constitute crimes against humanity. The assessment cited credible evidence of arbitrary detention, torture, and religious persecution.

The report intensified calls from governments and rights groups for an independent international investigation and for measures to hold those responsible to account.
